Buachaillí faoi 19 - Peil Sinsir
Tá painéal láidir ag an foireann sinsearach na scoile agus tá na buachaillí ag traenáil go dian faoi stiurthóireacht Oide Micheál i mbliana gach Aoine. Bhí dhá bua ag foireann peile na mbuachaillí daoi 19 ina gcluichí grúpa go dtí seo. Bhuaigh siad i gcluiche crua i gcoinne St. Kevin’s College, Finglas sa chéad babhta. Ba cluiche deacar é ach thaispeáin na buachaillí a lán aibí, chloigh siad leis an plean foirne, agus na tactaicí, agus bhí an bua acu ar scór 4-8 go 1-11. Bhí Gavin Ó hIcí laoch na hImeartha ar an lá sin agus bhí taispeántas den scoth ón gCaptaen Stiofán Ó hIcí, leas-Chaptaen Senan Mac an Chrosáin agus Aodán Ó Donnchú. Sa dara babhta, bhuaigh siad i gcoinne St. Paul’s College, Raheny. Níor éirigh go maith leis an fhoireann sa chéad leath, seachas Dan Ó Cionga gur choinnigh an fhoireann sa chluiche. Tar éis comhra díreach ag leath am, thainig an fhoireann amach sa dara leath agus chuireadar an cluiche ina luí le taispeántas den scoth - ach go háirithe na hionadaithe a thainig chun páirc sa dara leath. Chríochnaigh an cluiche ar scór 6-14 go 2-10. Mar gheall gur bhuamar an grúpa, tá an fhoireann go díreach tríd go dtí ceathrú cheannais Baile Átha Cliath. Faoi láthair táimid ag fanacht ar na buaiteoirí ón babhta “preliminary”. Táimid an-dóchasach don fhoireann i mbliana!
The school’s senior football panel is strong this year. The team has been training hard since September under the stewardship of Oide Micheál on Fridays after school. The team won its first 2 group games. They beat St. Kevin’s, Finglas in a gruelling affair, as tough a game as it was, the lads never looked like losing it. They showed fantastic effort and commitment to the plan and tactics. They won out by 6 eventually on a score of 4-8 to 1-11. Gavin Ó hIcí was exceptional in that game as well as strong performances by team captain Stiofán Ó hIcí, vice-captain Senan Mac an Chrosáin and Aodán Ó Donnchú. In their second round game, the boys started poorly against St. Paul’s College. They looked sluggish and only for a fantastic individual performance by Dan Ó Cionga, the game might have gotten away from them. The second half told a different story, and after a stern chat about tactics, positioning and effort, the lads came out with a point to prove and in the end they had too much for their opponents. The game ended 6-14 to 2-10. Exceptional performance by the substitutes on the day made the difference - an example of the importance of a strong panel. The boys are now through to the quarter final and await the winners of the preliminary round. We are very hopeful for this group this year.
