Cumhdach Aghaidhe

04-Eanáir-22

Soiléiriú maidir le clúdaigh aghaidhe a úsáid

Clarification on the use of face coverings

Ní mór d’fhoireann agus do scoláirí ag an leibhéal iar-bhunscoile clúdach aghaidhe a chaitheamh i gceart ar scoil. Ciallaíonn sé seo go gcaithfear an srón agus an béal a chlúdach. Tá seo istigh saPolasaí um Rialú Sláinte agus Sábháilteachta COVID-19 do scoláirí. Mura bhfuil dalta ag caitheamh a cumhdach aghaidhe i gceart cuirfear abhaile é/í.

Staff and students, at post-primary level, are required to correctly wear a face covering at school. This means that both the nose and mouth must be covered. This is covered in the Health and Safety Control of Covid-19 Policy for Students. If a student is not wearing their face covering correctly they will be sent home.

Cathain ar chóir masc aonúsáide a chaitheamh

Tugtar masc máinliachta freisin ar masc aonúsáide. Seo é an gnáth chineál masc aghaidhe a dhíoltar go hiondúil i gcógaslanna agus i siopaí eile.

  • má tá tú i do chónaí le duine a bhfuil COVID-19 air/uirthi

Léigh faoi chlúdaigh aghaidhe, mascanna agus cealtair anseo

Cén fáth gur chóir clúdach aghaidhe a chaitheamh

Scaiptear COVID-19 go príomha trí ghartheagmháil agus braoiníní a thagann ó do shrón agus ó do bhéal. Mar shampla, nuair a bhíonn tú ag casacht, ag sraothartach nó ag caint os ard. Laghdaíonn caitheamh clúdach aghaidhe scaipeadh na braoiníní seo. Cuidíonn sé freisin le cosc a chur ar dhaoine nach bhfuil a fhios acu go bhfuil an víreas orthu é a scaipeadh.

Má tá COVID-19 ort nó má tá comharthaí ort, caithfidh tú féin-aonrú. Déan é seo fiú má chaitheann tú clúdach aghaidhe.

Má chaitheann tú clúdach aghaidhe, ba chóir duit na rudaí tábhachtacha eile a dhéanamh chun cosc a chur ar scaipeadh an víreas.

Ina measc seo:

  • scaradh sóisialta
  • ag clúdach do bhéal agus do shrón le ciarsúr nó le do mhuinchille agus tú ag casacht agus ag sraothartach
  • do lámha a ní i gceart agus go minic
  • gan teagmháil a dhéanamh le do shúile, do shrón ná do bhéal mura bhfuil do lámha glan

Léigh an chomhairle maidir leconas tú féin agus daoine eile a chosaint.

When you should wear a face mask

By law, you must wear a face covering:

  • on public transport
  • in shops, shopping centres and other indoor settings, including cinemas and salons
  • in banks, posts offices and credit unions

You should also wear a face mask:

  • when staying 2 metres apart from people is difficult
  • in healthcare settings – this includes hospitals, GP surgeries, care settings, nursing homes and dental practices
  • when visiting anyone who is more at risk from COVID-19
  • in crowded workplaces, places of worship and busy outdoor spaces

Children should wear a face mask:

  • on public transport, in shops and other indoor public settings if they are aged 9 or older
  • in primary school and on school transport if they are in third class or above
  • in secondary school and on school transport
  • in healthcare settings - children may be asked to wear a face mask when attending a hospital clinic or GP surgery

If your child cannot wear a face mask for medical reasons, you may be asked to provide a medical cert at school.

How to properly wear a face mask

COVID-19 is mainly spread through droplets that come from your nose and mouth. For example, when you cough, sneeze or talk loudly. It can also be spread by smaller particles (aerosols).

Wearing a face mask that covers your mouth and nose reduces the spread of these droplets and aerosols.

✅ Do

  • clean your hands properly when you put on and take off your face mask

  • cover your mouth and nose and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask

  • remove it from behind - do not touch the front of the mask

  • carry unused face masks in a clean sealable bag such as a ziplock freezer bag, paper bag or cloth bag

  • carry a second similar type bag to put used face masks in

🚫 Don't

  • do not touch your face mask while wearing it – if you do, clean your hands properly

  • do not use a wet or soiled face mask

  • do not share face masks

  • do not lower your face mask to speak, eat, smoke or vape

  • do not throw away face masks in public places – you risk infecting others

  • do not put single-use masks in a recycling bin – they cannot be recycled

Types of face masks and visors

There are different types of face masks and visors. Even when you wear a face mask, you still need to do other things to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

Medical face masks

A medical face mask is a blue disposable type of face mask. It gives you better protection from COVID-19.

Throw out medical face masks after you wear them once. Do not wash or reuse them.

When to wear a medical face mask

Wear a medical face mask instead of a cloth face mask if you are at higher risk from COVID-19. For example, if you are over 70 years of age or you have an underlying condition.

Wear a medical face mask at home if you:

    • have symptoms of COVID-19
    • have tested positive for COVID-19 - you still need to self-isolate (stay in your room)
    • are living with someone who has COVID-19
    • are caring for someone who has COVID-19

If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, self-isolate (stay in your room)and get a COVID-19 test.

Cloth face masks

Cloth face masks are what most people should wear in places where a face mask is required.

They are usually made from cotton or silk and should have at least 2 layers of fabric.

Storing cloth face masks

Store your face mask at home in a dry, breathable bag to keep it clean between use. For example, a paper or cloth bag.

Washing cloth face masks

Wash your cloth face mask whenever it gets dirty or at least every day.

You do not need to sterilise face masks. Wash them in a washing machine or by hand.

When to throw out a cloth face mask

Throw out a reusable face mask if it:

    • no longer covers the nose and mouth
    • has loose or damaged ties or straps
    • does not stay in place on your face
    • has holes or tears in the fabric
