Mata / Maths
Is é an aidhm atá ag matamaitic na sraithe sóisearaí deiseanna ábhartha dúshlánacha a thabhairt do gach scoláire inniúlacht mhatamaiticiúil a bhaint amach ionas gur féidir leo dul i ngleic le dúshláin mhatamaiticiúla an ghnáthshaoil, agus cur ar a gcumas leanúint ar aghaidh lena gcuid staidéir ar an matamaitic sa tsraith shinsearach agus ina dhiaidh sin. Maidir leis an tsonraíocht seo, cuirtear inniúlacht mhatamaiticiúil i láthair mar chúig chuid idirnasctha atá fite fuaite ina chéile, seachas mar thréith aontoiseach:
- tuiscint choincheapúil – léirthuiscint ar choincheapa, oibríochtaí agus gaolta matamaiticiúla
- gnáth-líofacht –scil chun gnásanna a dhéanamh go solúbtha, go cruinn, go héifeachtúil agus go cuí
- inniúlacht straitéiseach–an cumas fadhbanna matamaiticiúla a cheapadh, a léiriú, agus a réiteach i gcomhthéacsanna a bhfuil taithí ag an scoláire orthu agus i gcomhthéacsanna nach bhfuil taithí aige orthu
- réasúnaíocht oiriúnaitheach–an cumas chun smaoineamh go loighciúil, machnamh, míniú, údar a thabhairt agus cumarsáid
- dearcadh dearfach –féachaint ar an matamaitic mar rud ciallmhar, úsáideach agus fiúntach, mar aon le creideamh i ndúthracht, buanseasmhacht agus éifeachtúlacht an duine féin.
The aim of junior cycle mathematics is to provide relevant and challenging opportunities for all students to become mathematically proficient so that they can cope with the mathematical challenges of daily life and enable them to continue their study of mathematics in senior cycle and beyond. In this specification, mathematical proficiency is conceptualised not as a one-dimensional trait but as having five interconnected and interwoven components:
- conceptual understanding—comprehension of mathematical concepts, operations, and relations
- procedural fluency—skill in carrying out procedures flexibly, accurately, efficiently, and appropriately
- strategic competence—ability to formulate, represent, and solve mathematical problems in both familiar and unfamiliar contexts
- adaptive reasoning—capacity for logical thought, reflection, explanation, justification and communication
- productive disposition—habitual inclination to see mathematics as sensible, useful, and worthwhile, coupled with a belief in diligence, perseverance and one’s own efficacy.
